Giving Tuesday Innovation
It’s not often that true, ground-breaking innovation comes to the charitable giving industry. But that’s exactly what happened this past November 29th, and Givio Charitable Foundation was part of the story.
Giving Tuesday has become a global phenomena generating needed funds and building awareness for nonprofits everywhere. And GT Nov 29, 2022 was no exception, with an estimated $3 billion raised from millions of donors. But this time, there was something new, something innovative, something never seen before. Banks and credit unions were launching Giving Tuesday campaigns supporting favorite charities through the online banking portals used by their account holders every day. The results and feedback were amazing.
The story actually starts with GCF’s partner, Givio, a software company building new donor-centric apps for charitable giving. Starting with a mobile app that lets anyone give to any charity or school or church, anytime, anywhere, Givio then launching Charitable Banking(TM), a giving product that integrates with digital banking software to bring an easy-to-use, secure, trusted giving experience right to the donor where they already manage so much of their financial lives. Pretty cool. As Givio signed up banks and credit unions, GCF stepped in to bridge relationships and partnerships between financial institutions and the nonprofits serving our communities.
Then something even better happened. Several banks decided to launch Givio for Giving Tuesday, creating giving campaigns and matching donations as a way of promoting the new service while contributing to their communities and participating in the larger Giving Tuesday movement. We worked with Bank of New Hampshire – the 14th oldest bank in the country, by the way. Visions Federal Credit Union out of New York. Topside Federal Credit Union in Virginia. With a mission that includes a focus on training and assisting small and mid-sized nonprofits looking for help in adapting to a modern economy, GCF facilitated planning and execution for several of these partnerships.
“This is so easy,” said many donors leaving messages of encouragement as they made their donation.
“I am blessed to be able to donate.”
“Thank you all! It makes me happy that I am able to donate for Giving Tuesday.”
And of course, there were many messages of support and appreciate left for the charities receiving donations through their local financial institutions.
Givio Charitable Foundation also provides financial management services, including the collection, receipting and distribution of GT program donations to the recipient nonprofits. And as a result, we have since had many new conversations and made many new friends in the charitable giving world, as we answer questions and tell the story of innovation on Giving Tuesday. And as Givio builds a network of banks and credit unions using Charitable Banking(TM), we are already planning for GT 2023 … we are going to have a lot of work to do … and that’s a great problem to have!
